Bye Bye aMeGoes!

I would like to share some major changes that we’ve made with regard to the customer service team. First of all, the team now has a manager: Treeny Sanchez! As is so often the case with regard to LetMeGo, this all started with a challenge. Specifically, one month ago I challenged Treeny to take on management duties for the team, on a trial basis. Thirty days later, I am happy to report that she has done a great job. Among her most notable achievements was her identification, among over 200 applications, of the latest member of the LetMeGo customer service team.

This leads me to my next order of business, introducing Shannon Wittington as our newest customer service associate. Shannon passed all of the tests we gave her with flying colors, and impressively (for such a telecommuting-friendly company), has more experience telecommuting than anyone else on the team (eight years!). Telecommuting fits her preferred lifestyle, as a self-proclaimed, natural-born geek who lives in Salesville, Ohio. Welcome to the LetMeGo team, Shannon!

Treeny also had an “aha” moment, but before I get to that, I have to explain something. We hate the phrase “customer service”. To clarify, we love the process and idea of customer service–we just don’t want to associate our efforts in this area with the terrible reputation that companies like Comcast and Delta Airlines have brought to the phrase. We also feel a little weird segmenting customer service as something separate from the rest of the LetMeGo experience/team. We believe that the entire LetMeGo service is geared toward caring for our customers, and that we are totally focused on their needs from the moment they visit the site for the first time–it’s not just a hat we put on when travelers call or email us. For a while, we have been using the fill-in term “LetMeGo aMeGoes” (we liked it, but it’s probably too cutesy and doesn’t translate well into other languages). After a number of brainstorming sessions with me, Treeny came up with a name we both like. From now on Treeny, Carmen, and Shannon are known as travel assistants, and they will be providing… um… travel assistance, as you might expect. It may not be perfect (after all, we don’t offer travel, we offer lodgings), but it will do for now.
